Architect / Sr. Architect
Overview
Manages architectural and interior design projects by planning, organizing, and controlling project elements to ensure timely completion within budget and scope.
Job DescriptionEssential Functions:
- Develops project scopes, plans, timelines, reports, and budgets; manages project close‑out, final payment, records retention, and integration into Archives.
- Organizes cross‑functional teams, coordinates and communicates with stakeholders, monitors progress, identifies risks, advises on preferred direction, and takes corrective action.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, NCH design requirements, brand standards, constructibility, and maintainability.
- Selects and manages outside design firms for construction documents, conducts drawing reviews, and obtains stakeholder feedback.
- Prepares FFE list and approves purchase orders and invoices; coordinates fit‑up and move‑management activities.
- Processes construction documents through city and regulatory agencies for permits.
- Establishes construction bid list, solicits and reviews bids, conducts pre‑bid meetings, analyzes bids, and awards contracts.
- Monitors construction for compliance; evaluates and approves design changes and drawing releases; monitors submittals, shop drawings, change directives, orders, and pay requests.
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, or related discipline, required.
Licensure RequirementMaintenance of professional license, preferred.
CertificationsFor interior design candidates: NCIDQ or EDAC certificate, preferred.
Skills- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of general and subcontractor business and practice relationships.
- CAD skills desirable; project scheduling software desirable.
- Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, contract and subcontract documents.
- Compliance with city, state, national building codes and standards.
- For interior design candidates: graphics design (Adobe Illustrator) skills desirable.
- Three years of experience in building construction, interior design, hospital architecture, or related institutional experience, preferred.
- Knowledge of estimating, construction costs, scheduling, purchasing, engineering principles, interior design, graphic design, construction methods, and installation procedures, preferred.
- Broad understanding of materials, characteristics, tolerances, and building systems.
- For interior design candidates: knowledge of product types, estimating, costs, purchasing, scheduling, installation, maintenance, corporate standards; signage and way finding knowledge desirable.
Occasionally: bend, twist, climb stairs/ladder, flex neck, lift/carry 21‑40 lbs, lift/carry 41‑60 lbs, loud noises, power tools, push/pull 41‑60 lbs, push/pull 61‑100 lbs, reach above shoulder, squat/kneel.
Frequently: lift/carry 11‑20 lbs, push/pull 26‑40 lbs.
Continuously: audible speech, color vision, computer skills, decision making, depth perception, hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, hearing acuity, interpreting data, lift/carry 0‑10 lbs, peripheral vision, problem solving, push/pull 0‑25 lbs, repetitive hand/arm use, seeing far/near, sitting, standing, walking.
