The Division of Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery seeks a highly qualified Neurotologist Surgeon‑Scientist. We are recruiting an academic clinician with advanced training in both pediatric and adult neurotology, substantial expertise in lateral skull‑base surgery, and a demonstrated commitment to a career integrating clinical excellence, education, and impactful scientific discovery.

The Neurotologist provides comprehensive, high‑quality care for adult and pediatric patients with complex otologic and neurotologic disorders. Clinical responsibilities include the evaluation and management of hearing loss, chronic ear disease, otologic trauma, vestibular disorders, cochlear implantation, and osseointegrated hearing solutions. The role requires advanced expertise in complex lateral skull‑base surgery, utilizing middle fossa, retrosigmoid, and translabyrinthine approaches, with a focus on the management of vestibular schwannomas, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, temporal bone tumors, and related skull base pathologies.
ResearchIn addition to clinical excellence, the Neurotologist is expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program as a surgeon‑scientist, contributing to translational and collaborative research aligned with departmental and institutional priorities. Scholarly contributions include peer‑reviewed publications, national presentations, and service within professional societies, supporting the advancement of the field and the institution’s academic reputation.
Teaching and MentorshipThe position plays a vital role in the academic mission by actively participating in teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, medical students, and research trainees. The Neurotologist also engages in interdisciplinary collaboration across the medical center, partnering with neurosurgery, oncology, audiology, engineering, and basic science investigators.
Qualifications- MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent)
- Completion of an ACGME‑accredited Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery residency.
- Completion of a fellowship in neurotology with formal training in both pediatric and adult populations.
- Demonstrated advanced training and proficiency in lateral skull base surgery, including middle fossa, retrosigmoid, and translabyrinthine approaches.
- Strong record of research productivity and a clear commitment to a long‑term career as a surgeon‑scientist (e.g., peer‑reviewed publications, funding history, research awards, or other significant scientific contributions).
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Ohio.
- Demonstrated independent or collaborative research funding, or clear potential for future external funding, including a K‑award or equivalent career development trajectory.
- Experience in team science and interdisciplinary academic research, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship, and academic leadership.
- Clinical or research interests aligned with vestibular disorders, including Ménière’s disease.
