The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center seek an exceptional Functional Medicine Physician to join our Center for Integrative Health, practice functional medicine, and lead the development of an innovative integrative primary care service line. This hybrid role combines 60% clinical practice with 40% strategic administrative responsibilities, focusing on a patient-centered, science-based approach to root causes of chronic disease.

The Center for Integrative Health at OSU Wexner Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in evidence-based integrative medicine, dedicated to advancing whole‑person care through clinical services, education, and research. The center collaborates with specialties such as Oncology, Long COVID, Women’s Health, and Neurology to deliver comprehensive integrative health solutions.
Position OverviewClinical Responsibilities
The Clinical Component (60%) focuses on direct patient care and comprehensive health management. Responsibilities of this component include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including detailed health histories, physical examinations, and advanced diagnostic testing.
- Develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that integrate conventional medicine with complementary approaches such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep optimization, and lifestyle modification.
- Diagnose and manage patients with chronic illnesses, including heart disease, metabolic disorders, autoimmune conditions, and other complex health issues.
- Provide patient education regarding their conditions and treatment options, empowering patients to make informed decisions.
- Adjust treatment plans based on individual patient needs, goals, and responses to interventions, demonstrating flexibility in clinical decision-making.
- Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date patient records to ensure continuity of care and optimal outcomes.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers and clinical support staff to deliver integrated, coordinated care.
Administrative Responsibilities
The Administrative Component (40%) focuses on building and establishing the new integrative primary care service line. Responsibilities of this component include, but are not limited to:
- Practice functional medicine and lead the development of an integrative primary care service line.
- Develop clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines for the service line and design a sustainable financial model.
- Design and implement comprehensive patient assessment and treatment frameworks combining functional medicine principles with conventional medical standards.
- Manage administrative tasks, including scheduling, patient record management, and communication with patients and referring providers.
- Oversee quality assurance and patient satisfaction metrics for the new service line.
- Participate in staff training and education to ensure consistent delivery of functional medicine principles across the team.
- Collaborate with center leadership to establish operational procedures, resource allocation, and strategic goals for service line growth.
- Contribute to research, quality improvement initiatives, and outcomes tracking to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrative primary care.
- Mentor clinical and administrative staff in functional medicine approaches and best practices.
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
- License or license‑eligible in the state of Ohio.
- Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related field.
- Certification in Functional Medicine (IFMCP) or eligibility within one year of hire.
- Minimum 3+ years of clinical experience in primary care or related field.
- Strong foundation in conventional medicine with demonstrated understanding of diagnostic and treatment protocols.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to promote collaboration and achieve results within interdisciplinary teams.
- Qualify for a minimum of an academic appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.
- Experience developing new clinical service lines or programs.
- Background in integrative or holistic medicine approaches.
- Experience utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems to support clinical workflows.
- Commitment to continuous medical education and up-to-date knowledge of functional medicine research.
- Leadership and mentorship experience in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment.
- Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
