Middle and Upper School Dean of Students

Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving diverse students in grades preschool through grade 12. Columbus School for Girls seeks a dynamic, motivated individual to serve as Middle and Upper School Dean of Students to begin in the academic year
. Reporting to the Director of Middle School and Upper School, the Dean of Students provides comprehensive leadership for student life across the Middle School (Forms VI–VIII) and Upper School (Forms IX–XII). This role fosters a positive, inclusive, and accountable student culture while supporting students’ social-emotional development, well-being, and sense of belonging. Serving as a bridge between divisions, the Dean ensures consistency in philosophy and practice while honoring the developmental needs of each age group.

Working collaboratively with division directors, the school counselor, learning specialists, form-level deans, and faculty, the Dean of Students helps shape a dynamic community aligned with the school’s mission and Portrait of a Graduate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Life & Culture

  • Lead and coordinate student life programming across both divisions, including assemblies, community gatherings, social events, spirit weeks, and special programming.
  • Oversee the student life calendar and student communications to ensure cohesive scheduling and clear information sharing.
  • Support student leadership and co-curricular offerings, including Student Council, clubs, affinity groups, and alliance groups, to foster engagement, belonging, and student voice.
  • Cultivate a vibrant school culture that celebrates diversity, promotes inclusion, and supports student growth.
  • Lead chaperone at dances/socials
  • Plan Form Level Trips with the collaboration of the Form Level Deans

Advisory Program Leadership

  • Provide vision and oversight for the advisory program in collaboration with the school counselor and form-level deans.
  • Support and train advisors to ensure meaningful mentorship and student engagement.
  • Ensure advisory programming addresses developmental transitions, resilience, digital well-being, and preparation for high school and beyond.

Form-Level Dean Supervision

  • Supervise and support form-level deans (Forms VI–XII), ensuring consistency and alignment across grade levels.
  • Facilitate regular collaboration, professional development, and shared problem-solving among form deans.
  • Support grade-level programming, transitions, traditions, and community-building efforts.

Discipline & Student Accountability

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for minor disciplinary matters and communicate with parents/guardians. Partner with division directors on more serious concerns.
  • Apply restorative practices and developmentally appropriate approaches to accountability.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records and support faculty with classroom behavior strategies.

Student Support, Well-Being & Transitions

  • Participate in and/or lead Student Support Team meetings and collaborate with counselors, learning specialists, advisors, and faculty.
