TUTOR - After School Program Tutor

Overview

Responsible for assisting with homework, and/or preparing interesting and engaging lessons in several subject areas to teach to the students. Tutors will check homework, provide assignments, give timely feedback, and work with students individually to ensure their success.

• Assist students with homework or projects assigned from school
• Prepare weekly activities for academic and cultural enrichment
• Select, adapt, and prepare materials for classes
• Engage students in class work and activities, such as reading, sentence construction, composition, grammar, and math problem solving
• Maintain a healthy learning environment in the classroom
• Support and guide students by assigning and giving feedback on a range of homework
• Maintain accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
• Help students develop critical and higher order thinking skills
• Provide individual support and attention to students as required through tutorials and individual meetings
• Evaluate students’ performance through class work, class participation, homework and tests

Some college required/college degree preferred. Proficiency in language arts and/or math.

Previous experience working with elementary and middle school aged children. Competent in teaching and assessment. Experience working with the refugee and immigrant community.
