As the Multilingual Learners Teacher, you will welcome new MLL families, facilitate parent‑teacher conferences, support families with school activities, and administer the Ohio English Language Proficiency Screen (OELPS) and other assessments, all while working part‑time for the 2026‑2027 school year.
Key Responsibilities- Family Engagement and Support
- Welcome and orient new MLL families.
- Provide basic translations for non‑English speaking parents about grade updates, field trips, and school materials.
- Assist families and students in joining sports, music, and extracurricular activities.
- Share strategies with parents to support proficiency in multiple languages.
- Ensure MLL families are included in school activities and events.
- Act as liaison between parents and teachers.
- Assessment Coordination
- Identify new MLL students using the Language Usage Form.
- Schedule and proctor the Ohio English Language Proficiency Screen (OELPS) and the Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA).
- Coordinate MAP and OST testing for MLL students.
- Proctor and report results to families.
- Arrange testing schedules across district buildings.
- Communication and Liaison
- Facilitate parent‑teacher conferences and grade‑level meetings.
- Coordinate interpreters for conferences and events.
- Distribute parent letters for identified MLL students.
- Direct Instruction and Student Support
- Provide instruction in academic English conventions, reading comprehension, tier 1 and tier 2 vocabulary, and course‑specific vocabulary.
- Consult with classroom teachers on MLL student progress and development.
- Advocate for MLL students for gifted programs, IEP/504 plans, and other special needs services.
- Cultural Integration and Advocacy
- Offer explicit instruction on school culture and American/Midwest culture.
- Facilitate discussions on cultural codes to promote understanding.
- Support cultural integration of MLL students and families.
- Administrative Duties
- Manage EMIS and service codes for newly identified MLL students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of MLL students.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
- Experience working with multilingual learners and their families.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in a second language preferred.
- Knowledge of Ohio educational policies and assessments for MLL students.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and students.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
