3rd Gr Teacher – Lagonda Elementary School Job Description

About the District: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a 3rd Grade Teacher for Lagonda Elementary School for the  school year. The district serves approximately 7,500 students from Pre-K to grade 12 across 17 state-of-the-art buildings and emphasizes diversity and social-emotional learning.

Qualifications
  • Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Possession of or in the process of applying for the Reading Endorsement or passing Praxis 5203 (Teaching Reading: Elementary Education)
  • Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to attend professional development sessions
  • Willingness to serve on teams
  • Ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm in the role
Responsibilities
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small-group instruction to meet student needs.
  • Use multiple instructional approaches to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Engage in active, hands-on creative and innovative activities to help students improve skills.
  • Identify and build on student strengths.
  • Support and follow district-enacted programming in academic, behavioral, and emotional support.
  • Administer ongoing assessments to determine starting points, monitor needs, and evaluate progress.
  • Evaluate, grade, and assess student work.
  • Maintain class records and report grades and progress at term end.
  • Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities, including SEL support.
  • Assist students in developing responsible behaviors and positive work ethic.
  • Implement an effective program of instruction reflective of Ohio Department of Education standards.
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, nurses, mental health specialists, counselors to maintain a safe, student-centered environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for classroom and district-level program planning.
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers about student/classroom issues.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, exemplifying responsible leadership.
  • Manage all situations positively and professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What We Offer

Employment type: Full-time, contracted teacher – 183 days per year, 7.25 hours per day.

Salary: In accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.

Benefits: Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. (Consult the current agreement for the 2025-26 school year.)
