This role is ideal for a passionate child development or behavioral health professional who is committed to creating inclusive, supportive environments where every child can thrive. The specialist partners directly with children, families, and YMCA program staff to assess behavioral needs, develop positive behavior support strategies, and provide hands‑on coaching and interventions within youth programs. This position plays a key role in ensuring children with diagnosed or suspected disabilities, mental/behavioral health concerns, or IEPs are fully included and supported across YMCA programs.

The role also provides leadership to the Summer Inclusion Team and helps strengthen staff capacity through training, collaboration, and ongoing support grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism practices. Thinks, communicates, and behaves as a cause‑driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job‑related functions.

Work directly with children who exhibit complex behaviors to gather data and develop strategies to reduce and/or eliminate challenges within the YMCA programs. Analyze individual child data to help develop a positive behavior support plan for teaching staff to implement in programs. Model various behavioral interventions with the YMCA program staff members. Provide ongoing support and resources to YMCA program staff to ensure that individualized services are effectively provided to a child with diagnosed or suspected disabilities, IEP, and/or mental/behavioral health concerns.

Provide staff with the information, guidance, and resources needed to help modify activities, remove barriers, and provide support as needed for the inclusion of children with disabilities or mental/behavioral health concerns in the full range of program activities. Submits reports as needed and requested, such as monthly summary tracking reports, etc. Assist with leadership for the Summer Inclusion Team during May through August each year.

Provides guidance, training, supervision, and collaboration.

Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth, participates in required abuse risk management training, reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors, follows mandated abuse reporting requirements, and adheres to job‑specific abuse risk management responsibilities. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community.
