Job Description
Horizon Science Academy Columbus Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and motivated Elementary Math Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate is committed to educational success for all students and is passionate about helping students build strong math skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence as learners.
Horizon Science Academy Elementary is a public charter school located on Morse Road in Columbus, Ohio, serving students in grades 3-5. We are proud of our highly diverse student and staff community and our small, safe learning environment. The Math Teacher will provide high-quality instruction aligned with Ohio Learning Standards and will use student data to support academic growth. The teacher will work closely with grade-level teams, intervention staff, special education staff, instructional coaches, and school leadership to support student achievement.
Teaching Responsibilities
The Math Teacher will:
* Support the school's mission, philosophy, values, goals, and policies with students, parents/guardians, and coworkers.
* Plan and deliver effective math lessons aligned with Ohio Learning Standards.
* Use developmentally appropriate curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to support student learning.
* Use data from classroom assessments, i-Ready, progress monitoring, and other school assessments to guide instruction.
* Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, including English Learners and students with IEPs.
* Help students understand classroom rules, procedures, and expectations.
* Provide students with academic support, examples, guidance, encouragement, and positive feedback.
* Create a safe, respectful, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
* Monitor and support student behavior according to school-approved procedures.
* Become familiar with student IEP goals and accommodations and support implementation in the classroom.
* Communicate student progress, behavior, and concerns with families and appropriate staff.
* Maintain accurate grades, attendance, records, and student progress documentation.
* Collaborate regularly with teachers, intervention specialists, instructional coaches, and administrators.
* Prepare students for state assessments through strong daily instruction and targeted review.
* Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and assigned duties.
* Support the school's STEM-focused mission through problem-solving, inquiry, and real-world learning activities.

Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree required.
* Valid Ohio teaching certificate/license preferred, or in the process of obtaining a valid Ohio teaching certificate/license.
* Substitute or alternative licensure may be considered.
* Experience working with school-aged students preferred.
* Elementary math teaching experience preferred.
Compensation
The starting salary for a first-year teacher is $45,000. Salary may increase based on years of teaching experience, type of teaching license, educational background, master's degree or higher, and other relevant qualifications.
