Responsibilities

The academic success coach will independently manage and oversee the daily operations of existing student success initiatives and retention programs and will develop and assist with the creation of new initiatives by working with the director and in some instances campus partners. Leads the delivery of academic intervention programs aimed to increase student success and retention, including but not limited to leading probation intervention programs for the Newark campus.

Develops, implements, and evaluates student-centered programs including individualized learning interventions, presentations, and workshops targeted to particular needs of diverse student populations. Coordinate meetings and outreach with students to teach academic & personal success strategies, inform about university policies, and make connections with critical resources. Serves academically at-risk students and urgent/extenuating student situations and determines appropriate interventions; plans, delivers, and evaluates individual development programs for students.

Engage and lead research to identify and address gaps in the areas of student success & retention through the redevelopment of existing initiatives or the implementation of new ones.

Student Success Outreach

Provides students individualized advice and resources through one-on-one meetings to enhance their academic and personal success. Provides support in the areas of self-regulation and executive functioning while helping students develop study behaviors, skills, and strategies that lead to academic success. Serves academically at-risk students and urgent/extenuating student situations and determines appropriate interventions; plans, delivers, and evaluates individual development programs for students.

Informs students on university policies & procedures and makes connections with critical resources. Assist with the coordination and delivery of appropriate student outreach and response by using a variety of methods (i.e. in-person, email, text, phone, etc.). Participate in proactive outreach efforts to improve student success and retain students through a case management model that includes triaging student concerns (i.e. personal, academic, or financial).

Utilize university systems such as OnCourse and Buckeye Link to leverage student success and retention efforts. Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay abreast of research and new practices within the field.

Alert Management

Independently manage Alert system and process for Newark campus and serve as liaison to OnCourse team in Columbus as well as other regional campuses. Monitor and track student academic progress throughout semester utilizing and cross-referencing data analytics and conduct individualized outreach as described above. Initiate communications with faculty, advisors, and other campus departments regarding Alerts and students of concern. Evaluate Alert process, gather and analyze Alert data through reports, and implement necessary changes to improve process, outreach strategies, and student outcomes.

Academic

Probation Intervention Programs

Independently manage the Buckeye Roadmap for Academic Success and the Success Training for Academic Recovery (S.T.A.R.) program for students on academic probation. Work closely with advising and records manager to identify students on academic probation. Develop program curriculum and identify best practices to carry out intervention methods. Collaborate with the Center for Student Success to offer workshops within programs. Monitor and track student academic progress and program completion throughout semester and plan, deliver, and evaluate timely interventions as appropriate.

Communicate with faculty and advisors about academic concerns in relation to end of semester reviews. Evaluate programs by gathering and analyzing data and implementing necessary changes to support improved student success.
