Overview
Columbus Crew is seeking an Academy Assistant Coach to work within the club’s U15‑U18 program. The role supports the Academy’s mission and One Club mantra, aids in developing future professional players, and helps build community relationships, especially in underrepresented areas, to recruit players into the Academy program.
Responsibilities- Assist in organizing and supervising players for Academy matches and training sessions.
- Assist in designing and executing daily team training sessions.
- Assist with development and execution of game tactics within the model of play and One Club philosophy.
- Lead or assist in implementing IDPs and supplemental training sessions for players within the assigned age group.
- Assist in talent identification and scouting process for the Academy.
- Assist in programming and club relations with external stakeholder initiatives such as the Crew Network Program, Crew Affiliate Program, MLS GO, and other identified programs as needed.
- Travel regionally to participate in player and club development, and identification initiatives.
- Soccer B License (or working towards).
- Preferred strong playing background (e.g., Division I College, USL, MLS, or overseas equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years coaching experience at Academy level or professional playing background.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a high‑performing environment.
- Available to travel when necessary and work evenings, weekends and holidays with some irregular hours.
- Team‑player mindset collaborating with other academy departments.
- Enthusiasm for continued learning is extremely important.
- Ability to think quickly and act with diligence and speed while maintaining attention to detail.
- Capability to collaborate in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to actively listen.
- Detail‑oriented, critical thinking.
- Understanding various video platforms for scouting opponents, self‑scouting, and IDPs.
