Job Description

Who We Are:

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Intervention Specialist at Springfield High School for the  school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The Springfield City School District values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff.

Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!

As a Intervention Specialist you are required to:

  • Possesses or have applied for an Intervention Specialist license or have the ability to obtain a supplemental license as an Intervention Specialist issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Ability to lead professional development of school-wide restorative practices
  • Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions
  • Be willing to serve on teams
  • Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role

As a Intervention Specialist you will:

  • The ability to effectively differentiate instruction
  • Accurately analyze data to plan instruction that is aligned to the Common Core State Standards
  • Be able to effectively manage and instruct whole and small groups
  • Have experience with writing standards‑based IEPs
  • Use research‑based pedagogy with excellent background knowledge of all content standards
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
  • Actively engage at‑risk students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
  • Recognize the needs of individual students and the entire group and offer support and flexibility as needed.
  • Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the goals of the District.
  • Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content and the varied needs of students.

What We Offer:

As a contracted employee, Intervention Specialist work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the  school year.
