Saint Mary Magdalene School – Middle School Social Studies Teacher
Saint Mary Magdalene School, a vibrant and culturally diverse prek‑K through 8 school located at 2940 Parkside Road in Columbus, is seeking a Middle School Social Studies Teacher for the 2026‑2027 school year.
The ideal candidate will be hardworking, collaborative, and demonstrate a high degree of self‑efficacy, holding themselves accountable for learner outcomes. The candidate will maintain a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and personal/collective professional development. They will facilitate problem‑solving, exhibit a curious mind and critical thinking skills, and creatively apply data‑driven curriculum and practice.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities)- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s systems.
- Provide appropriate feedback on work.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
- Update all necessary records as required by laws, policies, and school regulations.
- Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Participate in grade-band, school, and parent meetings.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Prepare the classroom for class activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Encourage parent and community involvement; promptly respond to phone calls and emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities.
- Participate in school committees that enhance the community and supplement student learning.
- Hold an appropriate Ohio teaching license (Professional, Permanent, or Resident Educator) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach.
- Current satisfactory BCI and FBI background checks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Teachers in the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Columbus must integrate Catholic teachings and virtues throughout the curriculum and school culture to support faith formation and student learning.
