Job Purpose
The Assistant School Director manages the academic progress of students, maintains a climate conducive to teaching and learning, ensures effective delivery and improvement of instruction, supervises, mentors, and develops instructional staff, and ensures that the school meets its defined goals. The role models and enforces the policies and procedures of the school and reports to the School Director, assisting with all educational and operational aspects.
PrimaryJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the School Director and serves as Acting School Director in their absence.
- Supervises and evaluates all teaching faculty, curriculum design, and improvement.
- Coordinates classroom and internship activities.
- Assists with teacher professional development and assignments in close cooperation with the School Director.
- Supports extracurricular activities and fulfills administrative duties as assigned.
- Provides strategic leadership for school improvement and development.
- Supports daily school operations, including academics, day-to-day activities, security, and staffing.
- Fosters an orderly, motivational, and aspirational culture and a strong school community.
- Demonstrates ethical and motivational leadership appropriate to the cultural and political context.
- Aligns students, teachers, staff, and parents around the school’s values and approach.
- Develops supportive relationships with parents, emphasizing communication and involvement.
- Maintains professional relations with the board, donors, and the broader community.
- Implements consistent strategies for managing challenging student behaviors in a therapeutic manner.
- Enforces the code of conduct to maintain proper discipline and conduct.
- Assists the director with the development, support, and implementation of school policies.
- Ensures high standards of achievement for all students.
- Maintains high expectations and accountability for student behavior.
- Uses data-driven behavior management systems to promote respectful behavior.
- Assists staff in developing effective classroom discipline and organization.
- Communicates policies regarding student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents.
- Participates in and monitors the RTI process.
- Supports the implementation of the instructional framework.
- Partners with external organizations to enrich the school culture through service opportunities and learning programs.
- Creates and submits weekly/monthly reporting to supervisors.
- Prepares required reports and paperwork such as discipline and suspension reports.
- Assists the director with student expulsions.
- Maintains confidentiality concerning all student and staff information.
- Supports ongoing professional development for all staff through observation, coaching, mentorship, formative assessment, and collaborative planning.
- Evaluates staff according to policies and procedures.
- Maintains facilities and follows appropriate remediation procedures.
- Builds positive working relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
- Acts as part of a whole‑school team involved in policy and program development.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Administrative certification welcomed but not mandatory.
1–2 years’ experience as a school leader or in an educational leadership role, program management experience, or similar.
Working ConditionsThe job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment and may involve working with challenging students at times.
Physical RequirementsThe job requires some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, as well as significant fine finger dexterity.
Supervision ReceivedOccasional, minimal guidance, following established work methods.
Direct ReportsAll school staff.
