Job Description
The Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the educational and classroom component of the Neighborhood Athletics Summer Youth Program. The coordinator will provide a structured and engaging environment where youth can strengthen their reading, writing, leadership, and life skills through daily enrichment activities.
This position oversees all classroom operations from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday
, including attendance, activity planning, classroom management, and communication with families and program staff. The coordinator will work closely with volunteers, guest speakers, and community partners to deliver meaningful programming that supports the overall mission of Neighborhood Athletics.
The Summer Program Coordinator is not responsible for athletic programming
, including soccer practices, basketball activities, or the Summer League, as those areas are managed by the coaching staff.
- Lead daily classroom and enrichment activities.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate educational lessons and projects.
- Provide literacy support through reading, writing, spelling, and homework assistance.
- Facilitate leadership development, life skills, and team-building activities.
- Maintain daily attendance records and participant documentation.
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Manage student behavior using positive reinforcement and restorative practices.
- Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and guest presenters.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding program updates and participant needs.
- Ensure all organizational policies and safety procedures are followed.
- Assist with program evaluations and grant reporting requirements as needed.
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Child Development, Psychology, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Current or former teacher, instructional aide, youth development professional, or equivalent experience preferred.
- At least one year of experience working with youth programs, schools, or nonprofit organizations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Passion for serving children and diverse communities.
- Ability to successfully complete a background check.
- Experience working within a nonprofit organization.
- Experience serving immigrant, refugee, or underserved populations.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and basic record-keeping systems.
