Position Summary

Provides comprehensive academic advising to pre‑major undergraduate students in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS), supporting academic success, retention, timely progression, and career development related to HRS degree pathways. Utilizes proactive, student‑centered advising strategies, including academic planning, goal setting, and policy guidance, to help students navigate university requirements, prepare for application to HRS undergraduate programs, and pursue healthcare career goals.

Monitors and communicates academic progress using institutional systems and connects students to campus resources and other academic units to support academic success and effective transitions to other programs.

Contributes to instructional and programmatic initiatives by teaching the pre‑major survey course, coordinating and leading new student orientation and first‑year experience, and end‑of‑term academic action for HRS pre‑majors. Participating in recruitment, student engagement efforts, and signature school events. Provides mentorship to new advisors and demonstrates leadership within the HRS Office of Academic Affairs and the broader Ohio State advising community. Engages in committee work, leads and supports complex projects, and participates in ongoing professional development, including conference presentations.

Upholds the mission and values of the university, college, school, and HRS Office of Academic Affairs, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience required. 4 to 8 years of relevant experience preferred. Professional certification or licensure is desired.

Responsibilities

50% Provides and documents comprehensive, one‑on‑one academic advising to pre‑major undergraduate students on HRS degree and program options, alignment of academic pathways with career and personal goals, and all aspects of curriculum planning, including general education, prerequisite and major requirements, course selection, sequencing, minors, dual degrees, and certificates. Monitors student progress and implements timely interventions to support academic success, helping students integrate diverse interests and explore appropriate academic and career options.

Advises and supports students experiencing academic, probationary, and financial concerns by providing guidance and consistently connecting them to appropriate academic, career, financial, and wellness resources. Reviews and processes student requests, including add/drop petitions, withdrawals, transfer credit, and program changes, in accordance with university policies and timelines, and identifies complex or unresolved issues for consultation with or escalation to senior staff as appropriate.
