Job Description

Who We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an Intervention Specialist at Snowhill Elementary School for the  school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The district values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff.

Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography. As a Intervention Specialist you are required to:
  • Valid Ohio teaching certificate or license in Special Education issued by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited in teacher education
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
  • Ability to design, adapt, modify and implement instruction to meet the individual needs of students
  • Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for planning and instructional purposes
As a Intervention Specialist you will:
  • Participates in the ETR process completing required evaluations, assessments, relevant data from progress monitoring, and observations as indicated by the school psychologist for all students on the caseload
  • Develops, in collaboration with a team of professionals, a student’s Individualized Education Plan in accordance with Federal, State, and Local requirements for all students on the caseload
  • Participates in collaborative lesson planning in inclusive settings with all team members
  • Plans in advance appropriate interventions, accommodations, and modifications for students under his/her supervision
  • Provides students with specially designed instruction in accordance with the child’s IEP. Develops and supports general education teachers to provide specially designed instruction to students participating in inclusive settings
  • Aligns lesson plans in self‑contained settings to the Ohio Extended Learning Standards for students with Low Incidence Disabilities
  • Provides progress reports to parents that reflect the child’s progress toward IEP goals and objectives at least as frequently as progress is reported to all students
  • Prepares interim progress reports and quarterly grades based on assignments in self‑contained classes
  • Helps students with disabilities to identify strengths and weaknesses, develops and encourages independence and self‑advocacy skills
  • Works collaboratively with parents in understanding the nature of the child’s disability and how the goals and services provided to the student support the student’s individualized needs
  • Stays current on new developments in the field by reading journals and publications, attending professional meetings and seminars and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
What We Offer:

As a contracted employee, teacherwork 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.

Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.

The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025‑26 school year.
