JOB TITLE: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
JOB STATUS: TEMPORARY - FLSA EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: HUMAN RESOURCES – SUBSTITUTE SERVICES
STARTING SALARY: $18.00/HOUR
Position OverviewIn the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the substitute assists students to learn subject matter and/or skills required for scheduled lessons and provides meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.
Assessment / Job Posting InformationThis posting is to apply for the SUBSTITUTE TEACHER assessment. Candidates who pass the assessment will be added to the SUBSTITUTE TEACHER eligible lists and considered only for Substitute Teacher positions.
A college degree of bachelor’s or higher is required. Only candidates who have provided verification of a college degree will be scheduled for assessment. The assessment is a web‑based, computerized test requiring a valid picture applicants will receive email notification of test date and time. Special accommodations may be requested by emailing classified services.oh.us.
Essential Duties- Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units or projects assigned.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
- Maintains a well‑organized and orderly classroom.
- Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
- Performs duties of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, and bus detail.
- Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classroom assigned.
- Knows procedures for referring students who have disciplinary problems.
- Knows school procedures and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the principal.
- Reports to school office at the beginning of the school day for required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign‑in and sign‑out procedures as prescribed.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Satisfactory completion of an FBI/BCI background check
- Valid Ohio Department of Education teacher certification/licensure
- Tools/Equipment Use:
Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair. - Posture:
Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling and twisting. - Motion:
Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching. - Lifting:
Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds). - Environment:
Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours. - Attendance:
Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. - Mental Demands:
Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
