Job Description

The ESL Teacher position is a full-time, non-supervisory role providing students with appropriate educational activities and experiences that will enable them to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth while acclimating into the English language. The Teacher's primary concern is the academic development of each student in mastering the English language while following the curriculum. This will prepare students for state‑required testing, high‑school graduation, and success post‑graduation.

The ESL Teacher reports directly to the Director and is a member of the school administrative team and the Intervention Assistance Team (IAT).

Additional requirements due to changes from the pandemic include assessing learning loss, using high‑quality assessments, differentiating instruction, implementing evidence‑based activities, providing support to parents and families, tracking attendance, and improving engagement in distance education.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the existing ESL program, bringing innovation as needed.
  • Oversee and administer the established curriculum, adjusting for student learning styles.
  • Teach instructional subjects per guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Education and administrative regulations.
  • Implement appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment to support ESL students.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers on Individual Education Plans to meet all modifications.
  • Maintain knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and technology to deliver quality instruction.
  • Create a rich learning environment with effective behavior‑management processes.
  • Help students develop study methods and habits.
  • Produce formal and informal tests to evaluate student success.
  • Coordinate and manage extracurricular duties as assigned.
  • Prepare classroom to enhance learning and support students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Control and guide student behavior in accordance with school policy.
  • Ensure necessary and reasonable measures to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish communication rapport with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Present information accurately through clear communication skills.
  • Gather, manage, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Serve as a team member, communicating and collaborating with all staff on student, staff, and facility issues.
  • Oversee attendance procedures and ensure compliance with all attendance activities.
  • Oversee student additional curriculum work hour requirements, reviewing for accuracy.
  • Refer students and inform appropriate personnel of student issues such as vocational, social, emotional, or transcript/record concerns.
  • Immediately alert appropriate personnel to any safety concerns (e.g., suspicion of weapons or drugs).
Job Requirements
  • BA/MA in Core Subject Areas.
  • Background working with English‑as‑a‑second‑language students.
  • Appropriate ESL certification or actively pursuing certification.
  • Will consider applicants with educational/curriculum or Language Arts background.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
