OverviewIn this role, the Head Start Coach implements classroom observational assessments to inform professional development efforts as needed. The incumbent assists Head Start (EHS) teachers and programs in creating and maintaining professional development plans and overall best practices for infant and toddler care and education. The Head Start Coach provides on-site coaching to HS family child care, child care center providers and directors through a relationship-based model that supports school readiness skills, creative environments that are inclusive and culturally and linguistically responsive.
In addition, the incumbent collaborates with the HS leadership team to inform ongoing training, coaching and other support services that actualize the overall HS program plan and goals. The Head Start Coach attends collaboration meetings and planning meetings as necessary. Finally, the incumbent ensures all coaching efforts are documented and accountable to the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
- 20% – Implements classroom observation assessments and creates and maintains professional development plans
- 50% – Provides on-site coaching to EHS/HS Family Child Care, Child Care providers and directors
- 20% – Documents all work in the Child Plus Data System
- 10% – Attends collaborative meetings
Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Early Childhood Education.
Required QualificationsMust have sound knowledge of early childhood education and development (birth-5 years); must have experience working with teachers, children and families from diverse backgrounds in an urban setting. Must have working knowledge of early childhood teacher credentialing, quality rating systems and knowledge of early childhood organizations nationally and state-wide. Must have knowledge of local teacher training and early childhood resources, collaborate and communicate with multiple sites and organizations simultaneously.
DesiredQualifications
Ability to provide motivation, follow-through, take initiative and problem solve. Proven ability to work independently and ability to think creatively. Three to five years previous mentoring, coaching, or teaching experience is desired. Knowledge of resources for the Weinland Park and Columbus areas.
