Job DescriptionFoster student success by defining and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. Advise undergraduate students majoring in International Studies on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. Provide comprehensive one‑on‑one advising to undergraduate students, counseling them on general education, prerequisite requirements, and major coursework, including course sequencing, minors, dual degrees, and certificates.
Develop relationships with students that support increasing autonomy and help them connect academic interests to broader educational and career goals.
Support students experiencing academic, probationary, and financial challenges; facilitate appropriate academic actions such as add/drops, withdrawals, and program changes; and consistently direct students to relevant campus resources. Identify opportunities for new resources and collaborations to enhance student support.
In addition to advising, support the unit's instructional and operational needs. Teach student survey courses, update course materials, and recommend and implement course improvements. Support course change and approval processes and maintain awareness of relevant course offerings across partner units. Contribute to the effective delivery of the curriculum through activities such as course scheduling and classroom coordination, and support departmental operations by participating in graduation activities and special projects.
Contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement by compiling and analyzing student and program data and assisting with the preparation of annual assessment reports. Support instructional quality by assisting with onboarding new instructors and providing guidance on teaching policies and procedures, including syllabus standards and Carmen compliance.
Assist in coordinating and executing student orientation, including advising activities, materials, and logistics, and collaborate with college and university partners to support the delivery and continuous improvement of orientation programming. Participate in recruitment events on behalf of the program. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
Minimum Education RequiredMaster’s degree is required.
Required Qualifications- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Deep understanding of programs, specialty areas, and academic and university policies.
- Demonstrates adaptive relational skills.
- Demonstrates superior communication skills; able to provide detail, depth, and context.
- Able to recommend policy, practice, and program changes to unit and/or university leadership.
- Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; trains, interprets, and explains FERPA guidelines to colleagues and stakeholders.
- Can support/mentor other advisors on complex topics.
- Demonstrates sophisticated cultural competence across multiple cultures and/or identities.
- Able to identify and predict ramifications of current and proposed policies and practices on the student population and their programs.
- Four (4) years of relevant experience.
- Utilizes and integrates historical knowledge of the academic advising profession.
The College of the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate International Studies Program is seeking a Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor. The College hosts 81 majors across 38 departments, more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, and offers world‑class research centers and interdisciplinary opportunities.
The pay range for this job profile is $51,500.00 – $67,250.00. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
