Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District serves approximately 7,500 students from Pre‑K through grade 12 across 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. It offers a 1:1 initiative and a digital learning lab, You Media Center, providing activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography.
As a ESOL Teacher you are required to:- Valid teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education that allows for teaching in a core content subject
- TESOL certified or currently enrolled in a certification program to complete by the beginning of the school year
- Outstanding personal and interpersonal skills
- Sensitivity to developmental stages of children and to second‑language development/acquisition and cultural awareness
- Open to parent communication
- Experience with technology in facilitating instruction
- Willingness to be flexible in teaching assignment within the district
- 1‑3 years teaching experience
- Experience working with English Learners
- Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or French
- Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio's English Language Proficiency Standards
- Provide effective instruction to EL students to develop English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Demonstrate flexible teaching: immersion/push‑in, whole‑group, small‑group, individual student, collaborative teaching, etc.
- Monitor ELs progress toward English proficiency, content‑area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior
- Support language proficiency tests for ELs
- Prepare and maintain documentation required for state reporting related to ELs
- Model a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and apply them within the content‑area and ESOL classroom
- Teach stand‑alone ESOL classes and collaborate with content‑area teachers to support EL academic success
- Build collaboration and relationship‑building skills to support ELL student learning within the inclusive and independent classroom
- Promote collaboration and team‑building
- Build rapport with staff and community
- Assess the accomplishments of the EL on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
- Know the RTI process and seek support from appropriate specialists when needed
- Provide support to ELs with disabilities
- Meet with, facilitate, and document communication with parents
- Provide technical assistance and generalized support to content‑area teachers regarding ELs
- Provide training and assistance to buildings and individual teachers to ensure appropriate identification of ELLs and support and service for ELLs and general classroom accommodations
- Be a champion for EL students
- Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, trainings, and professional development as required
- Analyze student data and use this data to inform Tier 1 instruction
- Implement effective classroom management strategies
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, teachers work 183 days per year, 7.25 hours per day.
Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increasing with experience and education.
