Job Summary
The Early Childhood Development and Education Program (ECDE), in partnership with the Columbus Museum of Art and the Childhood League Center, operates Wonder School, a lab school for ECDE students. At Wonder School, student teachers gain the knowledge and experience they need to launch their careers and become the next generation of leaders in early childhood education. As a labschool, Wonder School invites children to participate in interest‑driven learning and serves as a training classroom for future teachers.
The Pre‑School Substitute Teacher is a part‑time position. Under the guidance of the Lead Instructor, the Substitute Teacher assists with the implementation of the curriculum and maintains a positive learning environment for the children in the classroom. The Substitute Teacher will also offer support and mentorship to ECDE student teachers.
Instruction and Student Learning- Preschool Children and Families
- Implements weekly lesson plans in collaboration with student teachers and ECDE faculty.
- Aides in the assessment of children's development and routinely collects data. Models and provides guidance to student teachers to help resolve issues with children when necessary.
- Ensures the safety of all children in the program.
- Closely follows licensing regulations related to childcare.
- ECDE Student Teacher Engagement
- Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning for student teachers.
- Engages student teachers in the classroom set‑up each morning and conducts an end‑of‑class discussion to summarize the day.
- Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Development and Education or related field.
- Two (2) years of experience working with adult students and children ages 3‑5.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to gain access to work site(s).

- The employee frequently sits for periods of time, stands, and walks.
- Employee converses verbally or manually with others in person as well as by telephone.

- Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.
- Typical preschool classroom environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to preschool rooms.
