Special Education Coordinator

This position is responsible for assisting partner school districts with the delivery of special education programs and services, developing, promoting, supervising, and evaluating programs to meet the needs of students with disabilities and positively impact student achievement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Valid Ohio Administrative License
  • Documentation of a clear criminal record
  • Compliance with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle as required for assignment

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Work collaboratively with district administrators, educational staff, parents, and community partners to coordinate, provide, and continuously improve special education programs.
  • Provide staff with leadership, help resolve problems that negatively impact student achievement and/or student/staff safety, and work to resolve staff conflicts.
  • Collaborate with educational teams to modify the curriculum as necessary and assist with research-based and evidence-based interventions to address the academic, adaptive, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct comprehensive professional development opportunities and participate in professional growth opportunities.
  • Ensure accurate paperwork, meet all timelines and deadlines (annual reviews, progress reports, etc.) and assist with the collection of student and staff data for educational management information (EMIS) reporting.
  • Comply with Federal and state laws, model policies and procedures, and maintain confidentiality, strictly adhering to HIPAA and FERPA, respecting personal privacy, and maintaining confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and evaluation of staff.
  • Coordinate and monitor programs/services to ensure compliance with Federal and state law, state learning standards/extended standards, graduation requirements, and state and local testing requirements.
  • Partner with school districts to coordinate the transition process for students entering or leaving the program, participate in parent meetings, and serve as district representative when directed.
  • Incorporate and promote instructional, assistive, and other types of technology; uphold the acceptable use policy.
  • Serve as a role model in upholding high ethical and professional standards; maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality, accept responsibility for decisions and conduct, and promote a favorable image of the Agency.
  • Adapt to unique circumstances such as travel, extended hours, student behavior, lifting/transferring students, interactions with aggressive/disruptive individuals, etc.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or its designee.
Working Conditions
  • Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
  • Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
  • Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle and traveling to meetings and work assignments.
  • Duties may require using a computer keyboard and monitor, working extended hours, and working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
Performance Evaluations

Job performance is evaluated according to the policy provisions adopted by the Governing Board of the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio.

Conduct

Each staff member shall remain free of alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and refrain from abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment.
