About the RoleThe Scholarship Counselor and Staff Assistant supports the development, management, coordination, and outreach activities of Scholarship Programs in the Office of Student Financial Aid at The Ohio State University. The role coordinates the selection, awarding, and renewal of endowed, current use scholarship funds and general funds with colleges, departments, and external donors throughout the year. The Counselor serves as a direct liaison to various colleges and departments to provide support and troubleshoot issues related to scholarship maintenance and awards, including updating aid in alignment with current policies and procedures.
The position provides support for university and special scholarships, Cooperative Housing Programs, Alumni Association, University Honors & Scholars, UAFYE, and University Development. Responsibilities include recommending a high volume of applicants for scholarship selection and awarding, processing award revisions, and packaging financial aid in compliance with program criteria and university, state, and federal policies and procedures. The Counselor transmits scholarship decisions and directives, assists in the operation of Scholarship Administration, analyzes policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for updates, revisions, and enhancements.
The role also assists with training of college and department liaisons on the electronic process to notify Student Financial Aid of their scholarships and awards and provides training on Financial Aid and Department of Education regulations. The Counselor works with the Development Office and external donors in administering, verifying, and monitoring scholarships, maintains scholarship donor accounts via the scholarship database, maintains statistical data for reporting and research, researches and troubleshoots scholarship administration issues, monitors processing of departmental scholarships and awards in the Student Information System, counsels faculty and staff relative to financial aid program eligibility, develops, facilitates, and coordinates presentations and seminars, works with colleges and departments to establish outreach methods, advises students and families on financial aid as needed, monitors and audits account balances, maintains and communicates funding projections, assists in preparing budgets, maintains confidentiality, serves on committees, and assumes responsibility for program maintenance and routine decision-making in the supervisor's absence.
May require some nights and weekends. Performs other duties as assigned.
