Visiting Assistant Professor
The College of Public Health at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position. This role is intended for scholars teaching epidemiology and public health, and aligns with the College's commitment to excellence in public health education. The appointment is for one year and would begin August 15, 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology and public health, and to work on creating new curriculum, including proposal and materials for a certificate in Maternal and Child Health and a certificate in Epidemiology. In addition, the candidate will be expected to engage collaboratively with faculty and students and contribute to the intellectual life of the College.
All teaching activities are conducted in person on the University's main campus in Columbus, Ohio.
Performance objectives include:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology and public health, and other courses aligned with the candidate's expertise.
- Mentor students through office hours and other forms of academic support, as appropriate to assigned teaching responsibilities.
- Develop certificate program proposals and course syllabi to expand public health educational offerings and contribute to a rigorous culture of critical inquiry in the curriculum.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff in service to the Division of Epidemiology, including participation committees and other activities that support curricular and academic priorities, as appropriate for a visiting appointment.
- Contribute to the intellectual life of the College by participating in lectures, seminars, workshops, and other academic events, and by attending in-person division meetings, college faculty meetings, staff and faculty town halls, dean's lecture series events, and spring pre-commencement.
Education and experience requirements include:
- PhD in Epidemiology.
- Experience teaching Epidemiology to undergraduates and graduate students.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to or demonstrated efforts in scholarly activities that reflect Ohio State's Shared Values
