SASSO Intern - Assistant Learning Specialist## Department:

Primary Responsibilities:
The Student-Athlete Support Services Office (SASSO) is seeking candidates for an Assistant Learning Specialist (ALS) position in the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). This position will assist SASSO staff in monitoring and supporting a select group of Ohio State’s 36 varsity teams approximately 40 hours weekly. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to serve as an academic coach for a group of students from diverse backgrounds, focusing on helping them with time management, student advocacy, decision making, tutorial support, organizational strategies, and study skill enhancement during their transition to the university.
The ALS will prepare and organize a variety of academic reports and communication materials, attend staff meetings, and participate in regular trainings designed for their professional growth and development.## Additional Information:
Additional Responsibilities: The ALS will work directly with the Educational Services staff to provide comprehensive academic support to SASSO’s most academically at-risk student-athlete population. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, communicating with SASSO staff about student-athletes’ academic caseloads and closely monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress. The ALS will support Educational Services staff with incoming inventories and screening protocols, student academic assessments, individual learning plans and academic skill building and objective based study sessions.
Refers to and advises student-athletes on appropriate campus resources and facilitates discussions surrounding accommodations with the Student Life Disability Services (SLDS). The ALS will provide accurate and timely communication and reports to learning specialists and academic counselors. Must adhere to NCAA rules and the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA). Must have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail (specifically excel worksheets) and the ability to set appropriate professional boundaries while maintaining confidentiality.
Leverages team to work effectively with all student-athletes; collaborates with SASSO staff and campus partners to support all student-athlete development programs. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and written. The intern cohort will work with students to foster an environment of self-discipline, personal accountability, academic integrity, and personal wellness.

This is a 10-month term position. Anticipated duration (August – May).
