The specialist investigates allegations of academic misconduct, assembles and reviews evidence, evaluates the merits of cases, advises faculty, the chair, vice chair, and students regarding appropriate courses of action, and attends University Committee on Academic Misconduct proceedings.

The specialist serves on departmental committees, such as the curriculum committee, as determined by the chair, and may serve on university-level committees in consultation with the vice chair.
