Description

The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is currently seeking qualified individuals for the role of Museum Education & Public Programs Coordinator. The role involves managing and developing inclusive, engaging learning opportunities for children, families, adults, and school groups, while ensuring program excellence through staff development and data‑driven evaluation. The position is based in the Chandler Museum, a cultural destination featuring community‑focused programs and exhibitions.

Essential

Functions
  • Supervise and oversee daily operations, setting goals and objectives, managing schedules and work priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, facilitating access to resources and training, providing guidance, addressing issues, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions.
  • Assist the Museum Manager and Senior Program Manager with program development and implementation, and contribute to the Museum’s Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with other institutions and community partners.
  • Research, develop written materials, and present for educational programs and exhibits.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee, develop program curricula and learning goals for all public facing programs (pre‑K, children, families, adults) across all museum facilities.
  • Conceptualize, plan, and execute educational activities, including school group visits, summer camps, workshops, and public programs aligned with exhibitions.
  • Design and coordinate field‑trip programs with local school districts.
  • Develop and oversee interactive aspects of exhibitions (e.g., interpretive materials) and ensure program alignment with educational goals.
  • Analyze visitor feedback and program effectiveness to report findings and improve future programs.
  • Manage, train, and schedule education staff, educators, docents, and interns; conduct hiring and performance evaluations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with museum operating procedures, exhibit planning, and collections management practices.
  • Experience developing and implementing educational programming for both children and adults; appreciation for city history.
  • Marketing and public relations skills; proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Fundraising and grant‑application preparation.
  • Understanding of federal OSHA, state and county regulations, and city policies on risk management and safety.
  • Supervisory experience and performance evaluation.
  • Logical, creative problem‑solving and multitasking.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and related software.
  • Valid driver’s license and responsible motor‑vehicle operation.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Positive public image and effective relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, social science, public history, or related field; three (3) years of experience within a museum setting; three (3) years of experience in education and programming within a museum setting; valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Physical Requirements
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing for telephone and in‑person communication.
  • Sufficient vision for reading instructions and reviewing written documents.
  • Manual dexterity for operating office equipment and computers.
  • Physical mobility to lift up to 20 pounds and work in an office environment.
