Position Title: Professor – Faculty in Anatomy

Department: Medicine | Biomedical Education and Anatomy – Administration

Location: Hamilton Hall (0038)

Position Type: Regular

Schedule: 40 hours, First Shift

Position Overview

The Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy seeks a Director for the Anatomy Division. The incumbent, typically an associate professor or higher with a doctorate in a relevant field, will supervise administrative services for a technologically advanced anatomy teaching facility, coordinate IT, facilities, student services, budgeting, HR, manage the Body Donation Program, and support division education and research.

Performance Objectives Leadership and General Administrative Duties
  • Create a positive work environment that encourages communication, trust, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain a culture where all faculty and staff feel valued and supported, celebrating successes.
  • Build professionalism, transparency, and accountability; model partner engagement and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure timely communication for relevant information from the Department, Medical School, and Hospital/Health System to faculty and staff.
  • Partner with administrative staff to manage business and financial operations.
  • Serve as a role model in Department, College, Hospital/Health System activities and initiatives.
  • Follow best practices regarding human body donor material usage in accordance with state law and professional standards such as AAA and HAPS.
Division‑Specific Educational Programs
  • Maintain excellence of division education programs for medical, dental, graduate, undergraduate, resident, fellow, health‑professionals, and allied health learners.
  • Ensure education components meet accreditation requirements.
  • Teach within expertise in Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Histology, Neuroanatomy.
  • Mentor faculty, learners, and graduate students.
Oversight of Research and Scholarly Missions
  • Sustain a scholarship program demonstrating excellence and productivity.
  • Create an environment fostering research and scholarly activities.
  • Develop a thematic approach and strategic plan for research within the division.
  • Encourage collaboration and team science inside and outside the division.
  • Ensure mentorship and progress for faculty engaged in research.
  • Monitor research budgets and effort allocation.
Career Development of Faculty
  • Monitor, foster, and guide career development of each faculty member with departmental and college expectations.
  • Ensure annual individual performance reviews and updated career development plans.
  • Provide guidance for academic promotion and prepare recommendation letters.
Strategic Planning for the Division
  • Cooperate with Department Chair for strategic planning.
  • Coordinate faculty recruitment with the Chair.
  • Collaborate with other Division Directors to increase efficiencies and reduce overlap.
  • Assist with comprehensive self‑study and review of division activities every five years.
Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum Education: Doctorate (Academic) with major focus in anatomy or relevant field.

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Anatomy or related field.
  • Record of success as a master educator, professional leader, and scholar with evidence of a robust scholarship program.
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
  • Solid organizational and customer service skills to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis, reporting, human resources, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated employee supervision and HR administration skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills.
  • Successful background check.
