Semester Lecturer
The Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (MS DH) Program seeks an experienced educator and writing specialist to serve as an Adjunct Lecturer for a graduate-level scientific writing course. This position is designed to strengthen students' academic, scientific, and scholarly writing skills, which are critical to successful completion of thesis requirements and overall success within the program.
Working collaboratively with the course director, the successful candidate will provide students with expert instruction in scholarly writing, grammar, academic style, manuscript development, and evidence-based communication specific to dental hygiene and oral health research.
Primary Responsibilities
- Co-teach a graduate-level scientific writing course within the MS DH curriculum.
- Develop and deliver instruction focused on academic and scientific writing, including thesis development and scholarly publication.
- Provide individualized coaching and feedback to graduate students on writing mechanics, organization, style, and scientific communication.
- Guide students through thesis proposal development, manuscript preparation, and/or scholarly dissemination.
- Assist students in understanding expectations for graduate-level writing and peer-reviewed oral health publications.
- Collaborate with MS DH faculty to ensure writing instruction aligns with program competencies and thesis requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of writing resources, instructional materials, and program writing guidelines.
- Evaluate student performance and contribute to course assessment activities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated expertise in academic, scientific, or medical writing.
- Experience teaching or coaching graduate-level students in scholarly writing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience providing substantive editing and feedback on scientific manuscripts, theses, dissertations, and/or scholarly publications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students in an interdisciplinary academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a writing coach, medical editor, or scientific editor.
- Experience teaching scientific writing within a dental hygiene, oral health, public health, or healthcare-related program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of graduate dental hygiene education and thesis requirements.
- Familiarity with publication standards and expectations for peer-reviewed oral health journals.
- Experience mentoring graduate students through thesis development and completion.
- Knowledge of academic style guides and scholarly writing standards used within dental hygiene education.
