Professor - Faculty in Anatomy

Position Overview

The Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy is seeking a Director for the Anatomy Division. Faculty (tenure preferred but not required) at the associate professor level or higher who have earned a doctorate or other terminal degree in a relevant field, or who have equivalent experience, are invited to apply.

• Serve as director of the Anatomy Division, supervising administrative services of a technologically advanced facility that supports human body donor–based anatomy instruction for health professions learners.
• Oversee the coordination of multidepartment administrative services, including IT, facilities, student services, budgetary financial management, and human resources to maintain operations, staffing, faculty, and learner support.
• Manage and support the Body Donation Program activities and staff.
• Support the division’s education and research programs and ensure national leadership in Anatomical Sciences Education and Scholarship.
• Create a positive work environment that encourages communication, trust, teamwork, and professional growth.
• Develop and maintain a culture that ensures all faculty and staff feel valued and supported, celebrating successes and providing timely, constructive feedback.
• Build a culture of professionalism, transparency, and accountability within the Division.
• Establish a system for ensuring that relevant information from the Department, Medical School, and Hospital/Health System is communicated in a timely manner to all faculty and staff.
• Actively partner with administrative staff to manage the business and financial operations of the Division.
• Serve as a role model of engagement in important Department, College, Hospital/Health System activities and initiatives.
• Follow best practices concerning human body donor material uses in education and research according to state law and professional organization standards (e.g., AAA, HAPS).
• Establish and maintain excellence of Division education programs that meet the needs of medical, dental, graduate, undergraduate, resident, fellow, health professions practitioner, and allied health professional learners.
• Ensure all education components meet accreditation requirements where applicable.
• Teach in anatomy programs consistent with expertise within the four major subfields:
  Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Histology, Neuroanatomy.
• Mentor faculty, learners, and graduate students.
• Sustain a scholarship program with demonstrated excellence and evidence of productivity.
• Create an environment to foster research and scholarly activities in the Division.
• Develop an overall thematic approach and strategic plan for research within the Division.
• Foster collaboration and team science within and beyond the Division.
• Ensure appropriate mentorship and progress for faculty engaged in research.
• Monitor research budgets and effort allocation.
• Monitor, foster, and guide career development of each faculty member in the Division, in concert with the expectations of the Department and College of Medicine.
• Ensure that every faculty member has an annual individual performance review and an updated career development plan annually.
• Provide guidance to faculty for academic promotion and prepare letters of recommendation as appropriate.
• Engage in strategic planning for the Division, including coordination with the Department Chair and other Division Directors to increase efficiencies and reduce overlap of services and activities.
• Assist the Department Chair in coordination of comprehensive self‑study and review of Division activities approximately every five years.

• PhD in Anatomy or a related field.
• Record of success as a master educator, professional leader, and scholar with a robust scholarship program.
• Five or more years of directly relevant experience.
• Solid organizational and customer service skills to manage multiple priorities and evaluate complex issues.
• Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources and risk management planning.
• Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
• Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling.
• Successful completion of a background check.

Doctorate (Academic) with a major focus in anatomy or a relevant field.
