Reports To: Elementary School Principal(s)

Employment Status: Regular/Full-time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Description

Instruct students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development in order to set realistic expectations; establish proper rapport and effectively communicate with parents; create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; guide the process towards the achievement of curricular goals; participate in professional development activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university
  • Appropriate State of Ohio licensure
  • Highly Qualified Teacher Status in Math
  • Prior teaching experience is preferable
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education

Essential Functions
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Manage classroom and student behavior to maintain a learning environment
  • Prepare clear and timely lesson plans
  • Maintain accurate records as required
  • Provide guidance to students for educational development
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences
  • Collaborate with colleagues
  • Distribute course-related assignments
  • Assess student learning regularly
  • Provide complete lesson plans for substitutes
  • Create conducive classroom environment appropriate to maturity and interests
  • Assist administration in implementing procedures and rules for student life
  • Follow scope and sequence of instructional program per Board of Education-approved courses of study
  • Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Demonstrate subject matter knowledge and provide clear, complete, accurate explanations using varied instructional techniques and media
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect at all times
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required per negotiated agreement
  • Teach using sound instructional practices
  • Attend educational field trips
  • Establish cooperative relationships with parents via interim reports, report cards, and conferences
  • Refer students with learning difficulties to intervention assistance team
  • Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom goals
  • Observe ethics of teaching profession

  • Assist in selecting textbooks, equipment, and other materials
  • Promote good public relations
  • Respond to routine questions and requests promptly
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Establish cooperative professional relationships
  • Participate in committees, study teams, and co-curricular activities as agreed upon
  • Participate in intervention assistance meetings
  • Maintain and improve professional competence by attending seminars, workshops, etc.
  • Supervise student teachers
  • Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Principal or designee
