Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing individual educational needs, creating a flexible and safe learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding progress, expectations and goals.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Develops and administers a middle school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates plans into engaging learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Teaches all required subjects assigned to the grade level, including reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education and music, using the Board of Education adopted course of study.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts small group instruction as needed.
  • Instructs students on responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified by applicable laws and district regulations.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in education through seminars, workshops, professional meetings and research.
  • Maintains a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining classroom behavior standards.
  • Coordinates with other middle school staff, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and supplies, maintaining inventory records.
  • Supervises students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the school day, including transportation activities.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as directed by the Superintendent. The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities and is not meant to be all inclusive.

Travel Requirements

  • Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts across all subject matters taught.
  • Knowledge of data systems, data analysis and formulating action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Ability to use computer networks and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Qualifications Profile
  • Certification/License: Valid teaching license per district requirements.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Experience: Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level preferred.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt.
