The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a 3rd Grade Teacher at Kenwood Elementary School for the 2026‑2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. • Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education with certification to teach 2nd grade.
• Possession of or in the process of applying for the Reading Endorsement or have passed Praxis 5203 (Teaching Reading: Elementary Education).
• Be flexible in work schedule and willing to attend professional development sessions.
• Willing to serve on teams.
• Ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm in the role.

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction.
• Manage an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and the development of the whole child.
• Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with families and encourage parent involvement through classroom observations and volunteer opportunities.
• Maintain close relationships with parents, communicating regularly, especially regarding at‑risk students as defined by the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
• Actively engage at‑risk students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of different learning styles and needs.
• Recognize the needs of individual students and the entire group and offer support and flexibility as needed.
• Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out district goals.
• Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
• Participate in professional development activities aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content, and student needs.

As a contracted employee, teachers work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement and increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement; please refer to the current agreement for pay and benefits in place for the 2025‑26 school year.
