Responsibilities
- Serves as a first‑level supervisor for assigned staff and assists the Director in the day‑to‑day operation of the program/activity.
- Assists with providing program oversight and accountability for employee performance, the safety of children, and customer needs.
- Supervises staff, including assigning work, conducting performance reviews, approving leave, and establishing local performance standards.
- Ensures facility compliance with health, fire, safety, USDA, and program regulatory guidance; observes participants for signs of illness, abuse, neglect, or distress and follows mandated reporting protocols.
- Works with the Director to ensure DoD certification and national accreditation compliance and implements corrective actions.
- Direct deposit and Social Security Card required.
- A one‑year probationary period may be required.
- Employment verification (E‑Verify) must be successfully completed.
- Position requires regular contact with children under 18; applicants must comply with Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 and DoD Instruction 1402.05.
- Background checks must be favorably adjudicated.
- Immunization requirements apply to all employees working with children and youth, including the influenza vaccine.
- Must pass a pre‑employment physical and subsequent physicals, and provide evidence of immunization while being free from communicable disease.
- Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements, including orientation, initial and annual ongoing training, and any required certifications.
- Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must have the mobility necessary to supervise children within a classroom, activity area, or outdoor setting; must be able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and sit on the floor.
- Must have visual and auditory capabilities required for supervision and rapid response.
- Tour of duty may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Majority of work performed in the CYS facility, including classroom settings, activity areas, and outdoor areas, with occasional field trips.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), special education, or another related field. For Child Development Facilities, education must be directly related; for Youth Facilities, education must be in youth development or a related field; for School‑Age facilities, education may be in any of these fields.
- Experience:
- Option 1: 12 months of experience working in group programs with children/youth, with at least 6 months in a supervisory position; must hold the McCormick Credential.
- Option 2: 12 months of experience working in group programs with children/youth, with all 12 months in a supervisory position.
- Other Requirements: Proof of education required at time of application. Credit total must be directly related; general education courses do not count.
- The area of consideration is within the local commuting area of Columbus, OH (within 50 miles). MSP and ISMP Preference eligible candidates are included.
- Access to certain federal facilities may require a REAL ‑compliant driver’s license/ (marked with a star) or an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) from WA, MI, MN, NY, or VT.

Sunday premium pay and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non‑foreign overseas allowances, cost‑of‑living allowances, and differentials are not paid.
