Part‑Time Writing Coach

Eligibility and Compensation

  • Position:
    Part‑time Writing Coach (10–15 hours per week)
  • Hourly exempt; non‑exempt; no degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred; master’s degree preferred
  • Estimated salary:
    Competitive (not specified)
  • Location:

    Columbus Campus, Central Community College
  • Work method:
    Virtual and in‑person; minimum 75% in‑person on campus
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related field; or formal writing experience with a master’s degree (master’s preferred)
  • One year of high‑school or college‑level writing coach, tutoring, or teaching experience preferred
  • Strong English writing, speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of writing center theory
  • Ability to explain writing concepts (content development, sentence structure, APA & MLA formatting, grammar, mechanics, etc.)
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, databases, and online media platforms
  • Strong commitment to student success
  • Team‑work skills with faculty and staff
Responsibilities
  • Work with students virtually or in‑person on any writing, speech, or reading assignment
  • Build writing, speech, and/or reading skills with students
  • Follow Academic Success Center writing coach and center policies
  • Meet individually and with small groups
  • Select or develop materials and coaching strategies for each student’s needs
  • Provide writing and/or reading technique sessions or workshops for students and groups
  • Track student participation and progress in the Academic Success Center
  • Prepare reports and coordinate scheduling
  • Assist with Academic Success Center activities and general oversight as needed
  • Market ASC services on campus and in classrooms
  • Assist with ASC events, functions, and other duties as assigned

  • Retirement contribution from Central Community College: 9% staff contribution, up to 10% for faculty
  • Vacation accrual of 1.5 days per month for staff and paid holidays, including a week‑long winter break
  • Faculty contract: 175 days
