The Academic Coach serves as an instructional leader who partners with teachers to improve classroom instruction and increase student achievement. Through coaching, professional learning, data analysis, and curriculum support, the Academic Coach helps build teacher capacity while ensuring high-quality instructional practices across the school.
Approximately 50–60% of the role is dedicated to classroom-based coaching, including planning, modeling lessons, observing instruction, co‑teaching, and providing actionable feedback. The remaining 40–50% focuses on professional development, instructional planning, data analysis, teacher support, and coordination of school‑wide academic initiatives.
Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development- Coach teachers through lesson planning, classroom observations, demonstration lessons, co‑teaching, and reflective feedback.
- Support the implementation of research‑based instructional practices that improve student learning.
- Facilitate meaningful professional learning through staff meetings, PLCs, BLTs, and TBTs.
- Analyze instructional data to identify teacher and student needs and develop targeted coaching plans.
- Model effective instructional strategies and collaborative practices.
- Support implementation of curriculum maps, pacing guides, and instructional resources.
- Monitor and provide feedback regarding the effective use of curriculum and online instructional tools.
- Coordinate staff development initiatives in collaboration with the Principal.
- Promote strong student attendance through engaging instruction and proactive communication with students and families.
- Use assessment and achievement data to personalize instruction and close learning gaps.
- Provide targeted intervention through individual and small‑group tutoring in reading and/or mathematics.
- Monitor student progress and support teachers in improving instructional outcomes.
- Assist with implementation of state testing procedures and student testing accommodations.
- Monitor the use of state assessment preparation materials and instructional resources.
- Support implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to promote a positive learning environment.
