** The Department of Comparative Studies within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a temporary, part-time Lecturer. This position will take place from August 15, 2026 through December 31, 2026.

** The Department of Comparative Studies is home to an internationally renowned interdepartmental graduate program in folklore that provides an opportunity for students in a wide range of fields to explore vernacular communicative resources and expression in art, religion, and politics (the latter a particular strength of our folklore faculty). Folklore's ethnographic grounding allows students interested in globalization, cultural change, and democratization to understand these processes from the perspective of local actors.

Tracing the emergence of vernacular cultural forms, their movements through informal channels, and their adaptations across time and space, folklore provides an important complement to the study of formal institutions. At the undergraduate level, the comparative studies department offers a folklore minor, and folklore coursework is integrated into the general education program at the university.
