We seek an inspiring and energized educator who can contribute the following to our spirited community:

  • Cultivate curiosity and excitement for science through inquiry-based, experiential learning
  • Design lessons that encourage observation, questioning, experimentation, and reflection
  • Support students in developing age-appropriate scientific vocabulary and habits of mind
  • Create a classroom culture where students feel safe taking risks, asking questions, and sharing ideas
  • Collaborate closely with grade-level teachers and specialists to support interdisciplinary learning
  • Reflect on practice and engage in ongoing professional growth
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach science classes to grades kindergarten through fourth grade, designing developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Wellington’s curriculum and values
  • Plan and facilitate hands‑on classroom investigations and field trips that invite students to explore life science, physical science, earth science, and engineering concepts
  • Build strong routines that support safety, curiosity, and student independence in the science classroom
  • Assess student learning through observation, discussion, projects, and other authentic measures
  • Partner with classroom teachers to reinforce connections between science, literacy, math, and social studies
  • Communicate clearly and thoughtfully with students and families about learning goals and progress
  • Participate fully in the life of the school, including community events, experiential learning opportunities, and duties
  • Engage in professional learning aligned with the mission and instructional practices of the school
  • Bachelor’s degree in science education; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience teaching elementary students, ideally in a science setting
  • Strong understanding of how children learn and develop in the early and elementary years
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet a range of learners with appropriate challenge and support
  • Classroom management grounded in warmth, structure, and clear expectations
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Design meaningful, hands‑on learning experiences
  • Assess and document student learning in varied ways Interest in contributing to school life beyond the classroom
  • Frequent movement between classrooms, playgrounds, offices, and common spaces throughout the campus, including up and down stairs.
  • Occasionally required to lift or move objects up to 30 pounds. (e.g., teaching materials, classroom furniture, event supplies).
  • Regular bending, kneeling, squatting, and sitting on the floor to engage with young children at their level.
  • Visual and auditory ability to monitor student safety and respond to needs.
  • Ability to move quickly in emergency situations and remain calm under pressure.
  • Must be available for occasional after‑school or evening professional development or events.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a busy and sometimes noisy classroom environment, maintaining focus and clear communication with students and colleagues.
