Semester Lecturer

The Department of Engineering Education ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) at The Ohio State University is accepting applications from candidates with backgrounds of all engineering backgrounds for a part-time Lecturer appointment to teach first-year engineering courses in the Department of Engineering Education. The appointment would begin in August 2026 for the  academic year.

To support these efforts, the Department of Engineering Education invites applicants for a lecturer position. We will consider all qualified applicants with expertise in engineering education, computing education, computer science education and related fields. Successful candidates will demonstrate interest and ability to lead the development and delivery of new courses to undergraduate students.

All courses are taught in person on the University's main campus in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio State University will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required

• Master's degree or equivalent
• A desire to teach or passion for teaching undergraduate engineering students
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• A commitment to or demonstrated efforts in teaching that reflect Ohio State's Shared Values.

Desired

• PhD in engineering or a related area
• Experience teaching as an instructor of record or graduate teaching assistant in a learning setting including, but not limited to, higher education or K-12 schools

  Teaching portfolio should be limited to 5 pages and include:
• A summary of teaching experience and responsibilities.
• A reflection on teaching philosophy and goals.
• A list of courses and/or trainings taught (including course title, date, number of students, educational background of students), each with a very short description of the course and course goals.
• A discussion of your strategies for mentoring students with different cultural backgrounds and those belonging to groups identified by NSF as historically underrepresented in STEM.
• A discussion on strategies to achieve an inclusive learning environment for all students regardless of their backgrounds, expectations, and needs.
• A discussion of activities undertaken to improve teaching and/or mentoring.
• A summary of goals and plans for courses you would like to implement in our center.
• Teaching Statement. Write 1-2 pages narrative that includes:
• A personal vision for teaching and learning
• A description of teaching strategies or approaches for which you received training or have implemented.
• Justification for those strategies, highlighting how to achieve an inclusive learning environment for all students regardless of their backgrounds, expectations, and needs.
• A description of the ways in which your professional experience will inform the creation of new courses, enhancement of existing courses, and other educational activities for students.
• State mentoring skills you consider fundamental, including those necessary to effectively mentor students with different cultural backgrounds and those belonging to groups identified by NSF as historically underrepresented in STEM.
