Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure.

Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

Open Faculty Positions - Food Animal Infectious Diseases Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine College of Veterinary Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for two 9-month tenure track faculty positions at the expected rank of Assistant Professor with responsibility for research, teaching, and outreach related to infectious diseases of food animals and/or poultry.

Applicants with infectious disease experience that crosses a full range of animal populations are highly desired. Ideally, one of these positions will emphasize infectious diseases of livestock, and the second will emphasize infectious diseases of poultry. These positions are part of a larger hiring effort within the College of Veterinary Medicine to support the Protect OHIO initiative ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).

The successful applicants will provide compelling evidence of their potential to develop nationally recognized scholarly research programs that address the prevention and control of infectious diseases relevant to animal agricultural constituents in Ohio. As research intensive positions, these faculty members will be expected to actively seek federal and other extramural funding, and to incorporate graduate student training into their research programs.

Teaching responsibilities will include providing instruction to professional DVM and graduate students on topics that may include livestock and/or poultry production systems, preventive medicine, animal welfare, disease diagnosis, prevention and control, veterinary public health, and food safety. Although there is no formal Extension appointment with this position, these faculty members will be expected to serve as infectious disease outreach expert resources for internal and external constituent groups, and to communicate with stakeholders regularly, including livestock or poultry producers, regulatory agencies, and the academic community.

Research Objectives:

• Create a nationally recognized independent and collaborative scholarly research program addressing prevention and control of infectious diseases relevant to food animal production in Ohio.
• Actively seek and regularly receive extramural support of research, including federal funding.
• Effectively incorporate graduate student training into research in a manner that allows trainees to complete Comparative Biomedical Sciences degree programs in a timely manner.
• Routinely produce recognized scholarly outputs, including research manuscripts published in appropriate peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Teaching Objectives:

• Deliver high-quality instruction on food animal infectious diseases, livestock and poultry production systems, and preventive medicine for professional DVM and graduate students.
• Mentor graduate and professional DVM students with interest in food animal infectious diseases.

Outreach Objectives:

• Support livestock and poultry health and disease prevention in Ohio by building and maintaining partnerships with producers, private veterinary practitioners, diagnostic laboratories, other academic colleagues, and regulatory agencies.
