Position Overview

The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU-CVM) invites applications for afull-time Clinical Track faculty position to serve as Director of the Veterinary Clinical Skills Program. This role integratesprogram leadership, administration, and intensive hands‑on teaching in clinical and professional skills across the DVM preclinical curriculum.

The successful candidate will play a central leadership role in advancing excellence, innovation, and scholarship in evidence-based veterinary clinical skills teaching, learning, and assessment, while working directly with students in both simulated and live‑animal learning environments.

This is apredominantly teaching-intensive position with significant administrative and leadership responsibilities. Additional experience with clinical education is highly desired. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, strong collaborative efforts, and be capable of positive clear and effective communication. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Applicants must have previous experience in clinical veterinary practice and would also benefit from a background in clinical teaching, adult education, and assessment.

Prior academic program administration is an asset, as well as familiarity with instructional technology including Mediasite, Adobe Creative Cloud programs, Canvas/Instructure, H5P, and Microsoft Office products. Previous experience in creating animal use or human research protocols is an asset.

The Director will work with a team of veterinary faculty and technicians to ensure cohesiveness of teaching materials, standardization of policies, and integration of the Clinical Skills program throughout the OSU CVM Competency‑Based Veterinary Education Curriculum. Day‑to‑day operations will be managed by the Director of Clinical Skills Operations and their team of Clinical Skills technicians and student workers.

The Director will join the Professional Programs team, led by the Associate Dean for Education and Student Success, Assistant Dean of Education, the Assistant Dean of Student Success, the Director of Communication and Collaboration, the Office of Education, and the Director of Professional Success. The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment in an academic department within the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The specific departmental home will be determined based on the candidate's expertise, scholarly focus, and alignment with institutional needs.

Performance Objectives

Program Leadership and Administration

  • Provide leadership, administration, and strategic direction for the Veterinary Skills Program.
  • Support the Associate Dean for Education and Student success in program management, strategic planning, and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation activities related to teaching, learning, and outcomes assessment.
  • Collaborate with an expert veterinary technical team overseen by a Director of Clinical Skills Operations to ensure consistent day‑to‑day operations of the Clinical Skills Program.
  • Contribute to college and program-level initiatives related to teaching excellence, student success, and curricular innovation.

Teaching and Instruction

  • Teach extensively in clinical and professional skills learning sessions, working directly with a diverse cohort of DVM students.
  • Design, implement, and assess hands‑on clinical, technical, and professional skills instruction using evidence‑based educational practices.
  • Organize and manage laboratory sessions, skills‑based assessments, and simulation‑based learning experiences.
  • Create, manage, and maintain online and instructional materials in support of skills instruction.
