The John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Public Policy and Management with a focus in Urban Policy and Governance at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Autumn 2027. We encourage applications from individuals engaged in high-quality research that is relevant to public affairs. Research and teaching interests should focus on urban policy and governance, broadly defined, including but not limited to research related to housing, transportation, land-use, critical infrastructure, economic or workforce development and other place-based policies.

We welcome applicants with training in related social science disciplines, including (but not limited to) public affairs, public policy, public management, public administration, economics, sociology, planning, geography, or political science. Responsibilities will include teaching core and elective courses in the college’s undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. We encourage applicants to describe teaching and professional development experiences that have prepared them to teach and mentor learners at all levels.

In addition to scholarship and teaching, responsibilities will include service to the college, university, community, and professional associations.

We desire applicants with the potential to become productive and impactful researchers, effective teachers, and conscientious and engaged community members. The land-grant mission is core to the university and the college, and we are particularly interested in applicants whose research not only makes a strong scholarly contribution but also delivers value to the public. Relevant prior professional experience is desired but not required for the position.

• Publish high-quality scholarship in any area of urban policy and governance, including in high-impact public affairs journals.
• Effectively teach core and elective courses in the Glenn College’s undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs, creating learning environments in which all students are valued and engaged.
• Engage in service to the college, university, community, and public affairs professional associations.

• Conduct high-quality research in any subfield of urban policy and governance.
• Demonstrate ability to teach in a core area of the Glenn College’s undergraduate or graduate curriculum
• Have, or be on track to complete before starting the position, a Ph.D. in Public Affairs or a related field.

• Engage with public affairs professional associations (e.g., Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management, Public Management Research Association, Association for Public Budgeting and Financial Management) and publish research in affiliated public affairs journals.
• Conduct research relevant to local, state or federal government with evidence of (or the potential for) research partnerships with local, state or federal governmental entities.
• Have relevant prior teaching, mentoring, and professional experience.

Salaries for assistant professors in the Glenn College typically range from $90,000 to $108,000 based on experience, time in rank, and performance.
