The RoleA Field Technician I responsible for asset management, delivery, replenishment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network equipment. Operates with fiber, power, and other infrastructure to install, test, and maintain DS0‑OC192 services and next‑generation technologies.
Main Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and replace network equipment, isolate and restore system integrity.
- Assist in installation and testing of Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers.
- Use tools to locate, mark, and protect underground plant facilities.
- Operate AC and DC power installations.
- Manage asset inventory, shipping, and receiving.
- Perform preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure.
- Learn and use Lumen’s ticketing, provisioning, and time‑tracking systems.
- Report status and issues to management.
- Provide additional tasks as instructed by management.
- Understand fundamentals of network layer installations.
- High School Diploma or GED, or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
- Entry‑level technical experience in one of:
Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, or Outside Plant. - Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right‑of‑way, and As‑Builts.
- Site security and cleanliness compliance.
- PC skills, familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office.
- Fast learning of corporate databases.
- Availability for 24‑hour 7‑day on‑call rotations, standby, dispatch, and overtime.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift 50 lbs in all weather.
- 2+ years of relevant job experience.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Prioritization and time‑management skills.
Base salary range: $41,310 – $54,570 (OH). Compensation may vary by location and individual performance.
