Job SummaryThe Field Service Engineer (FSE) will provide routine to complex field service support for our total organic carbon (TOC) analytical instruments and accessories at customer sites predominantly within Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and Kentucky. Support includes maintenance, verification, validation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting. The FSE may also support Sievers brand Endotoxin and Bioburden instrument product lines in the field.
This position requires residency within the Greater Columbus, Ohio area and within 1-hour drive of John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH). The role will occasionally provide field service support to other customers within the Central US Service Region and, on occasion, the Greater US and Canada.
Key CharacteristicsWe are looking for a resourceful, self-directed individual who works independently and is attentive to details. The candidate should be able to organize planning, scheduling, and confirmation of services while balancing priorities. The role requires a scientific approach to operation, maintenance, and repair of analytical instrumentation and the ability to complete daily and weekly administrative responsibilities. Client focus and clear, timely communication are essential.
Experience in technical field support, customer support, and ultra-pure water applications or operation of analytical instrumentation in a lab environment is preferred.
- Travel to customer sites and perform PM and related services on TOC equipment
- Plan, schedule and confirm customer services, including travel and parts shipments
- Maintain administrative duties, parts inventory and relevant trainings
- Take customer calls, participate in territory sales meetings, and service team meetings
- Respond to on-demand contract services with 3 or 7 business day response commitments for troubleshooting and repair
- Write clear and concise reports for customers
- Special projects and new hire training as assigned by supervisors
- Work with Sales to provide insight into new instrument and service opportunities and upsell services and consumables when appropriate
- Ensure compliance with safety on the job, including operation and maintenance of an assigned company vehicle and Veolia EHS policies
- Domestic travel 70%
- Strong technical, mathematical and customer service skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage administrative duties
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with root-cause analysis
- General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry and safety
- Vision, manual dexterity, and coordination to service instruments and handle electrical equipment
- Ability to learn applicable company procedures within a reasonable time from start of employment
- Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, basic network and database knowledge
- Ability to use ordinary hand tools, calibrated tools, and analytical instrumentation; ability to handle chemically aggressive fluids
- Strong and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight
- Proven ability to speak effectively before groups and customers
- Ability to meet deadlines and commitments
- Ability to communicate effectively and contribute within a commercial team environment
- Ability to make sound business decisions based on risk-reward analysis and business objectives
Required:
- Associate Degree in a Science, Technical, or Engineering discipline; or equivalent education
- At least 3 years of work experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or Physics; or equivalent education
- At least 1 year of work experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on customer needs
- Maintain US driver's license and a good driving record
- Drive a motor vehicle with significant daily travel to customer sites
- Air travel required to reach customer destinations
- Travel to customers' sites requiring overnight stays approximately 30% - 40% of the time
- Use of laptop and mobile systems
- Work around machines, electrical equipment, chemicals, and in industrial facilities
