Design Technician - Land Development

Join our Columbus, Ohio (OH) office as part of the Development Services/Land Development team. The role requires a Civil Operator or Designer with 6+ years of experience.

Overview

We are looking for a qualified civil operator or designer to join our Development Services/Land Development team, based at our Columbus, Ohio office. The candidate should have 6+ years of experience performing drafting, plan preparation, and design tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and manage drafting and plan preparation standards
  • Develop technical drawings and plans
  • Make and quality check drawings and plans of substantial complexity, performing multifaceted calculations as needed
  • Perform day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision
  • Apply engineering principles and suggest design changes
  • Maintain the drawing database
  • Supervise and train CAD staff
  • Coordinate work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control
  • Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree preferred)
  • Ability to set up and manage printing/plotting settings
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Willingness to mentor and teach others
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self‑starter
