Agency Overview

What We Need:

Environmental Specialist 2

What We Do:

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

Job Description

What We Need YOU To Do:

Ohio EPA wants you to join our team as an environmental specialist with the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.

You’ll help ensure Ohioans have clean air. Not bad for a day’s work!

We’re looking for a motivated, collaborative person to support our responsibility to regulate industrial air quality. In this role, you’ll review and process a wide range of permits to install and operate for a range of industries—from electric utilities, renewable energy and data centers to food production, chemical and metals manufacturing, and more.

You’ll dig into facility emissions data, check it for accuracy, and run calculations using emission factors or mass balance methods. You’ll also visit regulated facilities to investigate air pollution issues, document findings, and help improve emissions factors along the way.

This job puts you in direct contact with the regulated community, giving you the chance to understand their operations, support compliance, and grow into an industry specific expert. When necessary, you’ll respond to citizen complaints about air pollution and provide technical assistance to industry staff, government officials, and the public.

Let’s breeze through those main points:

  • Review and process air permits for a variety of industrial facilities.
  • Review emissions data for accuracy and perform standard emissions calculations.
  • Investigate regulated facilities to determine compliance with air pollution regulations.
  • Connect with the regulated community to understand permitting and compliance needs and become an industry-specific expert.
  • Investigate citizen complaints and provide technical assistance to constituents.

If you like variety, problem solving, and work that helps protect the environment, this is a great place to land. Apply today!
