Job Summary

Battelle’s Defense and Material Solutions Business Unit is currently seeking an Electronics Engineer
. This position is located at Columbus, OH
.

The selected candidate will be responsible for design, development, test, and production of complex electronic and electromechanical systems, with technical oversight. Troubleshooting and debugging existing systems is required. The role is part of a technical team that may include engineers, technicians, and support staff. Key tasks include designing electrical schematics, writing embedded firmware, compiling and evaluating design and test data, and preparing technical specifications.

The candidate will also conduct research for device and technology development, build and integrate hardware and software components for computing systems and networks, and develop specifications for assigned system components.

Responsibilities
  • Perform assignments of moderate complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, and analyzing data to determine appropriate limits and variables for computing systems, components, equipment, and networks.
  • Interpret, compile, and analyze data collected and write various technical reports.
  • Design, fabricate, and integrate electronic systems as part of an integrated technical team.
  • Test and troubleshoot electronic systems.
  • Generate and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Reverse‑engineer electronic systems.
  • Generate and debug firmware code for microprocessors used in embedded systems.
  • Generate appropriate documentation including technical manuals and procedures.
  • Complete assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Build relationships with internal clients.
  • Contribute to Independent Research and Development (IR&D) studies.
  • Contribute to technical presentations for internal and external clients.
  • Work with minimal technical oversight.
  • Assist with proposal efforts as needed.
  • Present to clients.
  • Support business development efforts led by others.
  • May oversee lower‑level staff in extracting and preparing data for analysis.
  • Understand practical design concepts, best practices, and industry standard approaches when selecting hardware components and software solutions.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET‑accredited electrical/computer engineering program with 2‑5 years of experience or master’s degree in a related field with 1‑4 years of experience.
  • Sole US Citizenship and willing and able to obtain and maintain a government TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly.
  • Physically fit to accomplish required tasks, including working from ladders and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, good character, and eagerness to take on technical challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem‑solving ability and commitment to quality results under schedule deadlines.
  • Solid grasp of basic electrical engineering concepts and ability to learn.
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
  • Experience with computer languages/programs such as C, MATLAB, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Experience working in a lab environment, including preparing, conducting, and documenting tests, soldering, and wiring.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools (Altium, Spice simulation tools, etc.) and methods (concept, design, build, test, lifecycle support).
  • Experience generating and interpreting engineering schematics.
  • Experience with embedded systems design, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Travel when required by project tasks.
