Transportation Engineer 1 or 2
Position Summary:
The selected candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet minimum qualifications.
- Learn from a licensed professional engineer about pavement engineering.
- Assist with pavement engineering research and pavement design.
- Assist in establishing research objectives and design of appropriate experiments to address objectives.
- Make recommendations to higher‑level engineers on state‑funded pavement‑related research projects and assist with implementation of successful research.
- Assist with pavement design & rehabilitation analysis and recommendations for the Department’s pavement design program.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and accepted for the Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT) by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
- Valid certificate as Engineer‑In‑Training issued or accepted as equivalent by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 months experience as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641; or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years engineering‑related experience.
- Open to equivalent minimum class qualifications for employment as noted, but registration is mandatory.

Position is overtime eligible based on FLSA standards. All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one‑year probationary period. The final candidate selected will undergo a criminal background check.
